Chapter 1: Getting Started 1-7 Using the CD-ROM / DVD-ROM / CD-RW Drive Before you insert a CD, check for dust or fingerprints on the face of the CD without the title. Dust or smudges may cause the drive to read the CD incorrectly. You can use a clean, dry, non-abrasive cloth to wipe it clean. CD-ROM is short for Compact Disc - Read Only Memory. As the name implies, it is "read-only". You cannot save information on CD-ROM discs. CD-ROM drive is designated as D:. Windows operating system can automatically detect most CD-ROM drives.
