CAUTION: The heat sink and microprocessor might be very hot. Turn off the server and wait three to five minutes to let the server cool before removing the server cover. To remove the microprocessor, do the following: 1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server. 2. Remove the server cover. See "Removing the server cover" on page 21. 3. Remove the microprocessor fan duct. See Removing the microprocessor fan duct. 4. Remove the heat sink. See "Removing the heat sink" on page 64. 5. Lift the small handle and open the retainer to access the microprocessor. Then, carefully lift the microprocessor straight up and out of the socket, and place it on a static-protective surface. Note: Touch only the edges of the microprocessor. Figure 59. Removing the microprocessor 6. If you are instructed to return the microprocessor, follow all packaging instructions and use any packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping. to let the server cool before removing the server cover.
To remove the microprocessor, do the following:
1. Remove all media from the drives and turn off all attached devices and the server. Then, disconnect all
power cords from electrical outlets and disconnect all cables that are connected to the server.
2. Remove the server cover. See “Removing the server cover” on page 21.
3. Remove the microprocessor fan duct. See Removing the microprocessor fan duct.
4. Remove the heat sink. See “Removing the heat sink” on page 64.
5. Lift the small handle and open the retainer to access the microprocessor. Then, carefully lift the
microprocessor straight up and out of the socket, and place it on a static-protective surface.
Note:
Touch only the edges of the microprocessor.

6. If you are instructed to return the microprocessor, follow all packaging instructions and use any
packaging materials that are supplied to you for shipping.
