Troubleshooting Shooting Problem No picture taken when shutter-release button is pressed. Camera cannot focus. Pictures are blurred. Streaks of light or partial discoloration are visible in the monitor. Bright specks appear in pictures taken with flash. Flash does not fire. Cause/Solution A • When camera is in playback mode, press the 6, 10 A button, shutter-release button, or b (e movie-record) button. • When menus are displayed, press the d 12 button. • Battery is exhausted. 22 • When flash lamp blinks, flash is charging. 54 • The subject is too close to the camera. Try shooting with macro mode or in G (easy auto) mode or Close-up scene mode. • The intended subject is one with which autofocus does not perform well. • Select Auto for AF assist in the set up menu. • Turn camera off and then on again. 38, 39, 57 31 99, E 69 23 • Use flash. • Increase the ISO sensitivity value. • Enable vibration reduction. • Use BSS. • Use tripod and self-timer. 54 51, E 41 99, E 67 51, E 39 56 Smear occurs when extremely bright light strikes the image sensor. When shooting with Continuous set to Multi-shot 16 and when recording movies, avoiding bright objects, such as the sun, reflections of the sun, and electric lights is recommended. Set the flash mode setting to W (off). 55 • The flash mode is set to W (off). 55 • Some scene modes with which the flash 39 does not function is selected. • On is selected for Blink proof in smart 49 portrait menu. • Another function that restricts flash is 63 enabled.
