Listening Modes Listening Mode Description Input Source Pure Audio*1 In this mode, the display and video circuitry are turned off, minimizing pos- " Pu r eAAu d i o sible noise sources for the ultimate in high-fidelity audio reproduction. (As 4 the video circuitry is turned off, only video signals input through HDMI % input can be output from an HDMI output(s). ' Direct In this mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound ( D i r e c t d i oPPoPP processing. The speaker configuration (presence of speakers), speaker distances and A/V Sync settings are enabled, but much of the processing set via ) HOME is disabled. See "Advanced Setup" for more details (➔ 46). Stereo Sound is output by the front left and right speakers and subwoofer. " S t e r e o d i oPPoPP 4 Mono % Use this mode when watching an old movie with a mono soundtrack, or use it with the foreign language soundtracks recorded in the left and right chan- ' M o n o e o d i o P P o P P nels of some movies. It can also be used with DVDs or other sources contain- ( ing multiplexed audio, such as karaoke DVDs. ) Multichannel This mode is for use with PCM multichannel sources. Mu l t i c h i oPPoPP % ' Dolby Pro Logic IIx*3 Dolby Pro Logic IIx expands any 2-channel source for 7.1-channel play- 4 Dolby Pro Logic II back. It provides a very natural and seamless surround-sound experience that fully envelops the listener. As well as music and movies, video games can P L b M o v i e P P P P also benefit from the dramatic spatial effects and vivid imaging. If you're not using any surround back speakers, Dolby Pro Logic II will be used instead P L b M u s i c P P P P of Dolby Pro Logic IIx. • Dolby PLIIx Movie P L b G a m e c P P c P P Use this mode with any stereo or Dolby Surround (Pro Logic) movie (e.g., TV, DVD, VHS). P L x GM o v i e P P • Dolby PLIIx Music P L x GM u s i c P P Use this mode with any stereo or Dolby Surround (Pro Logic) music source (e.g., CD, radio, cassette, TV, VHS, DVD). P L x GG a m e c P c P • Dolby PLIIx Game Use this mode with video games, especially those that bear the Dolby Pro Logic II logo. • Dolby PLIIx Movie and Dolby PLIIx Music These modes use the Dolby Pro Logic IIx modes to expand 5.1-channel sources for 7.1-channel playback. % Dolby Pro Logic IIz Height*14 P L z GH e i g h t Dolby Pro Logic IIz Height is designed to more effectively use existing 4 program material when height channel speaker outputs are present. Dolby % Pro Logic IIz Height can be used to upmix a variety of sources from movies ' and music, but are particularly well-suited to upmix game content. Dolby EX These modes expand 5.1-channel sources for 6.1/7.1-channel playback. % Do l b y cEXoPPoPP They're especially suited to Dolby EX soundtracks that include a matrix- ) encoded surround back channel. The additional channel adds an extra dimen- sion and provides an enveloping surround sound experience, perfect for D o l b y c D i E X P P rotating and fly-by sound effects. Dolby Digital In this mode, audio from the input source is output without surround-sound % processing. The speaker configuration (presence of speakers), crossover freD o l b y c D i o P P o P P quencies, speaker distances, A/V Sync and much of the processing set via Dolby Digital Plus*7 HOME are enabled.
