5. Troubleshooting Alert Sounds The following table describes various beep patterns that the machine produces to alert users about machine conditions and the meaning of each beep pattern. Beep pattern A short beep A short beep, followed by long beep Two long beeps Five long beeps (repeating four times) Five short beeps (repeating five times) Meaning Panel/screen input accepted. Input is invalid. Machine has warmed up. Soft alert Strong alert Causes A control panel key was pressed. An invalid key was pressed, or an incorrect password was entered. When the power is turned on or the machine exits Sleep mode, the machine has fully warmed up and is ready for use. An error message appears on the control panel if there is no tray for the selected paper size or the tray is empty. The machine requires user attention because paper has jammed, the toner needs replenishing, or other problems have occurred. • Beep alerts cannot be muted. If the machine's covers are opened and closed repeatedly within a short space of time during an alert indicating a paper jam or insufficient toner, a beep alert might continue, even after normal status has resumed. • You can enable or disable beep alerts. • See "Setting the Sound Volume", User Guide (Full Version). 107
