Getting Started Using the computer for the first time 59 NOTE: When you turn on the computer for the first time, don't turn off the power again until the operating system has loaded completely. The AC power light glows when the computer is connected to an external power source. The battery light: ❖ Glows amber while the battery is being charged. ❖ Glows green when the battery is fully charged. ❖ Is unlit when the computer is not connected to an external power source. For information on determining battery power, see "Monitoring battery power" on page 130. The hard disk drive light flashes to indicate that the hard disk drive is currently in use. CAUTION: Never turn off the computer while any drive is in use. Activating the power-on password When you first power up your computer, no password is required. Once the operating system has loaded, you can set up your computer so that a password is required to complete the powering up process in the future. To activate the power-on password: 1 Press the TOSHIBA Console button. The TOSHIBA Console window appears. For more information see "TOSHIBA Console" on page 203. 2 Click Security. 3 Click User password.
