Connecting to a Computer Note: · To transfer non-DRM10 content files, select "USB2.0" mode. · To use the "for WMA DRM10" connection, you must have Windows Media Player 10 or later for Windows XP SP2, or Windows Media Player 11 or later for Windows Vista installed on your computer. Hint: DRM (Digital Rights Management) 10 is a copy-protection format designed to protect intellectual property (for example, music) from illegal copying and distribution. In order to play WMA files protected by this format, you must first set the unit to "for WMA DRM10," then connect the unit to the computer and transfer the WMA files. Precautions when using the USB terminal When connecting the USB terminal to the computer, make sure to observe the following points. Failing to do so risks freezing the computer and corrupting or losing the data. If the computer or the unit freezes, restart the application software or OS, or turn the power to the unit off then on again. • Before connecting the USB terminal to the computer, exit from any power-saving mode of the computer (such as suspended, sleep, standby). • Execute the following before turning the power to the unit on/off or plugging/ unplugging the USB terminal. · Make sure that no read or write operations are in progress. · Safely remove the unit from the computer after closing all windows that accessed the unit. • While the unit is connected to the computer, you should wait for six seconds or more between these operations: (1) when turning the power of the unit off then on again, or (2) when alternately plugging/unplugging the USB terminal. Note: · When you connect the recorder to the computer for the first time, some computers may not immediately recognize the unit as a Removable Disk.
