Changing An Existing Configuration Figure 40. RAID Level Migration Example Typically, a unit is reconfigured with the same or more storage capacity. Sometimes additional drives are added. The following table shows valid reconfigurations, some of which will require the addition of more drives. It is possible to reduce the number of drives included in a unit through a migration, as long as the new RAID configuration still has the same or more capacity. For example, if the unit consists of four 200 GB drives in a RAID 5, then 1 drive could be removed after migrating to RAID 0 with no loss of data. However, drive reduction typically also results in the loss of redundancy, or less redundancy, so be sure to weigh the trade-offs choices carefully. Note: Removing a drive while migrating a unit must be done through the CLI. .
