Installation and Configuration 5-17 Guidelines for Clusters Installing clustering software requires several specific steps and guidelines that might not be necessary when installing software on a single server. I When you set up an Ethernet cluster interconnect, be sure to select TCP/IP as the network protocol. The Ethernet cluster interconnect should be on its own subnet. IMPORTANT: The IP addresses of the Ethernet cluster interconnect must be static, not dynamically assigned by DHCP. I Be sure to set up unique IP addresses and node names for each cluster node (server) in the hosts and lmhosts files located at %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc. G One IP address and node name is for the cluster interconnect, and the other IP address and node name is for the client LAN. Both entries are required for each node in the cluster. G After setting up these file entries, be sure to restart the node so it picks up the correct IP addresses.
