6-3 Moving Your Computer and Peripherals Your personal computer and its peripheral components are highly sensitive machines that can be damaged easily through bad shipping and handling. We recommend that you take the following steps before moving the equipment to another location. Short Move An example of this is moving from one location to another in the same building. Ensure that you have taken the following steps before moving any items: Be sure that all data in your hard disk is backed up onto floppy disks. Enter the DOS system program and invoke the PARK command. This command will lock up your hard disk to protect it from damage while the computer is being moved Turn off all power switches Insert the cardboard diskette/s supplied with the system unit into the disk drive/s and close the disk drive levers Detach all cables and cords. Next, coil and tie them to protect the connectors Move each item separately Long Move This kind of move involves use of a motor a vehicle to carry your computer and its peripherals from one location to another. Your personal computer and its peripheral components are highly
sensitive machines that can be damaged easily through bad shipping
and handling. We recommend that you take the following steps before
moving the equipment to another location.
Short Move
An example of this is moving from one location to another in the same
building. Ensure that you have taken the following steps before
moving any items:
Be sure that all data in your hard disk is backed up onto flop-
py disks.
Enter the DOS system program and invoke the PARK com-
mand. This command will lock up your hard disk to protect it
from damage while the computer is being moved
Turn off all power switches
Insert the cardboard diskette/s supplied with the system unit
into the disk drive/s and close the disk drive levers
Detach all cables and cords. Next, coil and tie them to
protect the connectors
Move each item separately
Long Move
This kind of move involves use of a motor a vehicle to carry your
