Removing components from the chassis, Installing the replacement chassis

Page 103 highlights

7. Disconnect any inter-chassis link (ICL) cables. Removing components from the chassis CAUTION: Wear a grounded ESD strap when handling DC SAN Director components and port blades. The chassis provides a grounding connection above the power connectors. Also, store ESD-sensitive components in antistatic packaging. Use the following procedures to remove components from the chassis. 1. Remove the cable management comb (see "Removing a cable management comb" on page 74). 2. Remove the port blades or filler panels (see "Removing a Director blade" on page 76). 3. Remove the core switch blades (CR8) (see "Removing a core switch blade (CR8)" on page 86). 4. Remove the control processor blades (CP8) (see "Removing a control processor blade (CP8)" on page 82). 5. Remove the power supplies or filler panels (see "Removing a power supply" on page 88). 6. Remove the blower assemblies (see "Removing a blower assembly" on page 89). 7. Remove the WWN bezel (logo plate) and WWN cards (see "Removing the WWN bezel (logo plate) and WWN card" on page 93). Installing the replacement chassis CAUTION: A fully populated DC SAN Director (eight FC8-48 port cards, 384 ports) weighs approximately 104 kg (228 lbs) and requires a hydraulic or assisted lift to install it. If the DC SAN Director is installed in a cabinet, ensure that the cabinet is balanced and secured mechanically and that the removal and installation procedure will not compromise cabinet stability. 1. If the chassis is in a cabinet, remove it from the cabinet, remove the rack mount hardware, and save the hardware for use with the new chassis. 2. Place the chassis on a lift or on the shipping pallet provided with the original chassis. 3. Unpack the new chassis: a. Cut the bands that encircle the packaging. b. Remove the lid and the kits and foam from the top of the chassis. c. Lift the cardboard box off the chassis and remove the plastic bag from around the chassis. Save the packing materials for use when returning the old chassis. d. Leave the chassis on top of the plastic shipping tray if the chassis must be transported to the installation location. 4. Use a pallet jack or other assisted lift to transport the new chassis to the installation area. Doorways must be wider than 36 in. (91 cm) to accommodate the chassis on the pallet.
