Installation Order of Installation for Tape Library SAN Components Order of Installation for Tape Library SAN Components The recommended procedure to install library SAN components is as follows: 1. If connecting Fibre Channel (FC) switches to form a multi-switch fabric, install and configure the switches, and plug in the FC cables between the switches. 2. Install FC hubs that will be placed between the switches and the libraries. Install the FC cables between the hubs and switches. 3. Install and configure your HP library. If your library requires one or more external FC bridges, connect the library to the bridge(s). 4. Connect the FC bridge and/or library FC interface cards to the FC hub (if present) or to the FC switch (if present). 5. Install the FC Host Bus Adapters into each server. Connect the servers to the switch with the appropriate FC cables. 6. Install or configure the backup software to allow servers to share libraries. Chapter 2 2-3

Order of Installation for Tape Library SAN
Components
The recommended procedure to install library SAN components is as
follows:
1.
If connecting Fibre Channel (FC) switches to form a multi-switch
fabric, install and configure the switches, and plug in the FC cables
between the switches.
2.
Install FC hubs that will be placed between the switches and the
libraries. Install the FC cables between the hubs and switches.
3.
Install and configure your HP library. If your library requires one or
more external FC bridges, connect the library to the bridge(s).
4.
Connect the FC bridge and/or library FC interface cards to the FC
hub (if present) or to the FC switch (if present).
5.
Install the FC Host Bus Adapters into each server. Connect the
servers to the switch with the appropriate FC cables.
6.
Install or configure the backup software to allow servers to share
libraries.
