84 X Tailgate Pull the tailgate down using one of recesses :. X Push the tailgate closed from outside the vehicle. X Lock the vehicle if necessary with the & button on the key or with KEYLESS-GO (Y page 75). injured. To stop the closing procedure, do one of the following: RPress or pull the remote tailgate opening/ closing switch on the driver's door. RPress the tailgate closing switch. RPress the KEYLESS-GO locking/closing switch. RPull outside handle on the tailgate. RWhen no SmartKey is inserted in the starter switch (vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: Make sure the vehicle's on-board electronics have status 0): Press button F on the SmartKey. Opening and closing Automatic opening and closing from the outside Important safety guidelines G Warning! Make sure the tailgate is closed when the engine is running and while driving. Among other dangers, deadly carbon monoxide (CO) gases may enter vehicle interior resulting in unconsciousness and death. ! The tailgate swings upwards and to the rear when opened. Therefore, make sure that there is sufficient clearance above and behind the tailgate. To open the tailgate completely, a minimum clearance of 7.20 ft (2.20 m) above the ground is necessary. Opening You can open the tailgate automatically with the key or the handle in the tailgate. X Press and hold the F button on the key until the tailgate opens. or X When the tailgate is unlocked, pull the handle and let it go again immediately. You can close the tailgate automatically using the key, the closing button6 or the locking button7. X To close: press closing button : on the tailgate. or X Closing G Warning!
