Linking Drivers / Application Programs Linkable Drivers/Application Programs To use the fax transmission, copy and mail functions, the respective drivers or application programs must be linked to the functions. The Scan (1-3) buttons can also be linked to application programs, such as image editing programs. Please see P. 29 for the linking instructions. Fax Transmissions (Platen Mode Only) Microsoft Outlook 98, Microsoft Outlook 2000 and other standard fax software can be linked to the fax function. Mail Transmissions (Platen Mode Only) A mail application program must support the MAPI interface to be linked to the ScanGear Toolbox mail function. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange and other standard mail software can be linked. • MAPI is an acronym for Message Application Programming Interface, and is the standard interface for email application programs. Copy Printer drivers can be linked to the copy function. The printer driver can be found by clicking the Windows [Start] menu and selecting [Settings] and [Printers]. If two or more printers are connected to a computer, you can switch between them. Both local printers and network printers can be linked. Scan 1-3 Up to three application programs can be linked to the scan buttons. With a single click, this function scans the image, starts the linked application program and acquires the scanned image into the program. • If all the application programs were installed from the CanoScan Setup CD-ROM, the installed programs will be linked to the scan buttons (1-3) by default. 28
