Testing the Printer Problem The printout is faint or uneven. Solution The printout is faint. The ribbon may be worn out. A worn ribbon can damage the print head and should be replaced. Install a new ribbon cartridge as soon as possible. See page 6-4. Parts of printed characters are missing, as shown here: ABCD There is either too much slack in the ribbon or the ribbon is caught on something. Stop printing, turn off the printer, and reinstall the ribbon cartridge. See page 1-9. The bottom parts of printed characters are missing as shown here: ABCD The ribbon cartridge may not be installed properly. Turn off the printer, remove the ribbon cartridge, and then reinstall it. Make sure the cartridge hooks are inserted securely into the printer. See page 1-11. A blank line runs through your characters, as shown here: The print head is damaged. Stop printing and contact your Epson dealer to have the print head replaced. If the printer still does not print the self test correctly, contact your Epson dealer. Setting Up the Printer 1-25
