Reduce interference on a wireless network The following tips can reduce interference in a wireless network: ● Keep the wireless devices away from large metal objects, such as filing cabinets, and other electromagnetic devices, such as microwaves and cordless telephones. These objects can disrupt radio signals. ● Keep the wireless devices away from large masonry structures and other building structures. These objects can absorb radio waves and lower signal strength. ● Position the wireless router in a central location in line of sight with the wireless printers on the network. Solve fax problems Use the following information to solve fax problems. Introduction Use the fax troubleshooting information to help resolve issues. Fax troubleshooting checklist After each recommended action, retry faxing to see if the problem is resolved. For best results during fax problem solving, make sure the line from the printer is connected directly to the wall phone port. Disconnect all other devices that are connected to the printer. 1. Verify that the telephone cord is connected to the correct port on the back of the printer. 2. Verify that the printer firmware is current: NOTE: To determine the current firmware version on your printer, print a Printer Status Report from the printer control panel, and then look on the report to find the firmware date code. Then visit the HP product support page (using the steps below) and compare the firmware date code to the latest firmware version that is available from HP. If there is a newer version available, follow the steps below to update the firmware on your printer. a. Go to support.hp.com, click the Drivers & Software link, type the printer name in the search field, press the ENTER button, and then select the printer from the list of search results. b. Select the operating system. c. Under the Firmware section, locate the Firmware Update Utility. NOTE: Make sure to use the firmware update utility that is specific to the printer model. d. Click Download, click Run, and then click Run again. e. When the utility launches, select the printer from the drop-down list, and then click Send Firmware. 128 Chapter 9 Solve problems
