Measuring Silver ink OD ● Silver ink OD should be measured in M3 conditions (with polarizers). This can be done by the external eXact spectrophotometer. ● The on-press spectrophotometer (SPM) can measure only in M0 conditions. ● In order to measure the OD of the silver ink with an M0 external spectrophotometer, you need to measure the OD of Silver printed by 2 hits, subtracted by the OD of Silver printed over 1 hit of black, subtracted by the OD of 2 hits of silver = 0.07 ± 0.02 in black channel (for coated gloss and semi matte - white substrates only). ● The M0 output is the subtraction of 2 elements: Target OD of Silver (M0) = OD of 2 hits of Silver on Black - OD of 2 hits of Silver NOTE: ● M3 is higher ⇒ M0 is lower ⇒ more Silver ● M3 is lower ⇒ M0 is higher ⇒ less Silver ● Typical values for M3: 0.9 -1.3 ● OD target range for M0: 0.05 - 0.16 32 Appendix A Full color calibration
