Adding Clients to Windows Domains client computer can still be a member of the domain and use the same domain credentials no matter which HD image was used to boot up the computer. Another application of this unique feature is when the Administrator changes the unique HD image that is assigned to a client computer as its system image. For example, the system image is changed from WindowsXP-Pro-Diag.vol to WindowsXP-Pro-Office.vol. Both images are made for clients that are members of the same domain and come from a common strain image. When the system HD image changes, the domain credentials in the repository do not change. The same domain credentials will be used whatever the system image. As the client computers get the same name (from the Neoware Image Manager server or DHCP), the same domain credentials must be used (Domain Controllers and Domain Members use client name as the identifier for joining a domain); this is made possible because the domain credentials are the same whatever the system HD image. This is not possible with standard HD based Windows systems. Storing Domain Credentials in an NVDD Server Directory Windows XP The following procedure requires that you use the Windows XP Professional Clients Professional client operating system. Before you perform the following procedure, make sure that the client computer is not a member of a domain. If it is a member of a domain, you must remove it before you continue. Once the client computers boot correctly with Neoware Image Manager, do the following: 1 Backup the hard disk image on the server. You can copy the image to another image file that you will modify. You can copy an image currently used by clients as long as it is not currently used in Admin mode. Storing Domain Credentials in an NVDD Server Directory 151
