PPMs Removal and Replacement Procedures To remove a PPM: 1. Power down the server. See the "Powering Down the Server" section in this chapter. 2. Extend or remove the server from the rack. See the "Preparation Procedures" section in this chapter. 3. Remove the access panel. See the "Access Panel" section in this chapter. 4. Open the latches on the sides of the PPM slots . 5. Lift the PPM out of the slot . 1 2 1 Figure 2-49: Removing a PPM CAUTION: PPM slots must be populated when processors are installed. If PPM slots are not populated, the system does not boot. IMPORTANT: PPMs do not seat if turned the wrong way. Reverse steps 1 through 5 to replace the PPM.
