Descriptions of the diagnostic tools follow. Power-On Self-Test (POST) Each time you turn on your computer, it performs a series of tests that check the operation of the base computer. This series of tests is called the power-on self-test (POST). Note If your computer starts but does not boot when you press the power switch, do the following: Make sure all cables are securely connected to the correct locations. Check to see if the voltage-selection switch is set to the correct position for your country. POST does the following: Checks basic system board operations Checks the memory operation Compares the current system configuration with that established by the Configuration/Setup Utility program Starts the video operation Verifies the presence of diskette drives, hard disk drives, and the CD-ROM drive (if installed) 104 Using Your Personal Computer
