Changing the blade workstation IP address for the integrated Ethernet controller Use the blade workstation operating system to view or change the IP address of the integrated Ethernet controller. See the documentation that comes with the operating system for information about changing the Ethernet controller IP address. Changing the IP address for the SOL function The IP address of the SOL function of the BMC on the blade workstation is assigned automatically according to the specified IP address range for blades in the BladeCenter unit and the number of the blade bay in which the blade workstation is installed. To view the IP address of the SOL function of the BMC on the blade workstation, use the management module Web-based user interface, navigate to Blade Tasks, and click Configuration → Management Network Configuration. The IP address that the blade workstation uses is the value that is in the BSMP IP address range field, followed by a period and the blade workstation bay number. To change the blade workstation BMC SOL IP address, move the blade workstation to a different blade bay. Establishing a session between the blade workstation and the thin client If you have purchased and are using connection broker software and have established the correspondences between the thin clients and the blade workstation compression cards through Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), the connection broker automatically establishes a session between the thin client and the target blade workstation. See the documentation that comes with the connection broker software for instructions and information about session establishment. If you are not using the Connection Broker software, you must explicitly establish the session yourself. To explicitly establish a session between the blade workstation compression card and the thin client, complete the following steps at the thin client. Note: See the documentation that comes with the thin client for the exact connection setup sequence and instructions. 1. Make sure that the thin client session is configured to communicate with the IP address and MAC address of the target blade workstation compression card (see the instructions that come with the thin client). 2. Turn on the thin client. 3. Turn on the blade workstation. 4. Follow the instructions in the thin client documentation to establish the connection. Conclude with steps 5 and 6 of this procedure if necessary. 5. Enter the password, if one has been established, or click OK. 6. Click Connect, or the equivalent, at the thin client. Updating the compression card firmware This section describes how to update the firmware on the compression card that is in the blade workstation. The compression card provides communication to and from the thin client. To update the BIOS or other blade workstation firmware, see "Firmware updates" on page 36. 30 BladeCenter HC10 Type 7996: Installation and User's Guide
