Configuring the BladeCenter unit If you have not done so already, follow the instructions in the BladeCenter Serial over LAN Setup Guide for the following tasks, substituting the term blade workstation for blade server: v Configuring the global SOL settings for the BladeCenter unit v Configuring the management module v Installing and configuring Secure Shell (SSH) for SOL Enabling SOL for a blade workstation SOL must be enabled both globally for the BladeCenter unit (see "Configuring the BladeCenter unit") and individually for each blade workstation on which you plan to start an SOL session. To configure the blade workstation to use SOL, complete the following steps: 1. Follow the procedure in the BladeCenter Serial over LAN Setup Guide to enable SOL for blade servers, substituting the term blade workstation for blade server. Ignore the note about console redirection. 2. Follow the procedure in "Configuring the blade workstation BIOS for SOL" to configure the blade workstation BIOS. Make sure to configure the SOL function to operate on VLAN 4095. Configuring the blade workstation BIOS for SOL To configure the blade workstation BIOS to enable SOL, complete the following steps. Note: The BladeCenter HC10 blade workstation supports the SOL connection on serial port A only. 1. Update the blade workstation BIOS: a. Download the latest version of BIOS code for the blade workstation from http://www.ibm.com/systems/support/. b. Update the blade workstation BIOS code, following the instructions that come with the update file that you downloaded. 2. Configure the blade workstation BIOS settings: a. Restart the blade workstation and press F1 when you are prompted to start the Configuration/Setup Utility program. b. Select Devices and I/O Ports. c. Make sure that Serial Port A is set to Auto. d. Select Remote Console Redirection; then, make sure that the values are set as follows: v Remote Console Serial Port: Serial Port A v Baud Rate: 19.2K v Console Type: VT100 v Flow Control: None v Console Connection: Direct v Continue C.R. after POST: On e. Press Esc twice to exit the Remote Console Redirection and Devices and I/O Ports sections of the Configuration/Setup Utility program. 40 BladeCenter HC10 Type 7996: Installation and User's Guide
