Note: Updating the firmware on the blade workstation compression card requires the use of a computer, such as a notebook computer, on the same subnet and gateway as the blade workstation. You can connect the computer to the network or directly to the Ethernet-capable I/O module 2. To update the firmware on the compression card, complete the following steps: 1. Connect a computer to the network to which I/O module 2 is connected. Make sure that the computer has an address with the same subnet mask and gateway as the blade workstation. 2. Download the compression card firmware update from http://www.ibm.com/ systems/support/ to a hard disk. 3. Open a Web browser on the computer and enter the compression card IP address in the browser address field; then, press Enter. 4. In the resulting window, click Upload → Firmware. 5. Direct the browser to the firmware file that you downloaded and copied to a hard disk. 6. Click Upload. 7. After the upload has completed, remove the blade workstation from the BladeCenter unit and reinstall it (see "Removing the blade workstation from the BladeCenter unit" on page 16 and "Installing the blade workstation in a BladeCenter unit" on page 24 for instructions). Using the Configuration/Setup Utility program To start the Configuration/Setup Utility program, complete the following steps: 1. Turn on the blade workstation (see "Turning on the blade workstation" on page 11). 2. Immediately give the blade workstation control of the BladeCenter unit shared keyboard, video, and mouse ports. v If you are managing the blade workstation by using the BladeCenter system console, press the KVM select button on the blade workstation (see "The control panel buttons and LEDs" on page 12 for information). v If you are managing the blade workstation from a remote location, see the User's Guide or Command-Line Interface Reference Guide that came with your management module or the IBM BladeCenter Serial over LAN Setup Guide for information and instructions. 3. When the Configuration/Setup utility message opens, press F1. 4. Follow the instructions on the screen. Configuration/Setup Utility menu choices The following choices are on the Configuration/Setup Utility main menu. Depending on the version of the BIOS code in the blade workstation, some menu choices might differ slightly from these descriptions. v System Summary Select this choice to view configuration information, including the type, speed, and cache size of the microprocessor and the amount of installed memory. When you make configuration changes through other choices in the Configuration/Setup Utility program, the changes are reflected in the system summary; you cannot change settings directly in the system summary. This choice is on the full and limited Configuration/Setup Utility menu. Chapter 4. Configuring the blade workstation 31
