GETTING READY Threading the upper thread Set the spool of thread on the spool pin, and then thread the machine. Press (Needle position button) once or c twice to raise the needle. a CAUTION ● When threading the upper thread, carefully follow the instructions. If the upper threading is not correct, the thread may become tangled or the needle may bend or break. Turn on the machine. a a Needle position button Note z The needle is correctly raised when the mark on the handwheel is at the top, as shown below. Check the handwheel and, if this mark is not at this position, press (Needle position button) until it is. Raise the presser foot lever. b a a a Presser foot lever X The presser foot is raised. Memo z If the presser foot is not raised, the sewing machine cannot be threaded. a Mark on handwheel Pick up the spool pin and remove the spool d cap that is inserted onto the spool pin. b a a Spool pin b Spool cap Place the spool of thread onto the spool pin. e Slide the spool onto the pin so that the spool is horizontal and the thread unwinds to the front at the bottom. 32

Threading the upper thread
Set the spool of thread on the spool pin, and then
thread the machine.
CAUTION

Turn on the machine.

Raise the presser foot lever.

The presser foot is raised.
Memo
If the presser foot is not raised, the sewing
machine cannot be threaded.

Press
(Needle position button) once or
twice to raise the needle.

Note
The needle is correctly raised when the mark
on the handwheel is at the top, as shown
below. Check the handwheel and, if this
mark is not at this position, press
(Needle position button) until it is.

Pick up the spool pin and remove the spool
cap that is inserted onto the spool pin.

Place the spool of thread onto the spool pin.
Slide the spool onto the pin so that the spool is
horizontal and the thread unwinds to the front
at the bottom.
When threading the upper thread,
carefully follow the instructions. If the
upper threading is not correct, the thread
may become tangled or the needle may
