3-19 SCSI Hard Drive Installation Guidelines The following guidelines should be noted when adding SCSI hard drives. See Chapter 4, "SCSI Cabling Instructions for Mass Storage SCSI Devices," for additional information. s As a general rule, a maximum of seven SCSI devices may be added per controller. Because of each server's physical and configuration constraints, the maximum number will be different. s You must set the SCSI ID manually on each drive to a unique value in the range of 0 to 6. Consult the documentation that came with the drive for instructions on setting the SCSI ID. s If only one SCSI hard drive is used, it should be installed in the lowestnumbered bay. s Compaq SCSI non-hot-plug cables are terminated. Be sure to remove all terminating jumpers from third-party SCSI devices. s Drives may be Fast-SCSI-2, Fast-Wide SCSI-2, Wide-Ultra SCSI-3, or a mixture of the three in servers and storage systems. s Drives should be the same capacity to provide the greatest storage space efficiency when drives are grouped together into the same drive array. s Run System Configuration Utility after installing a drive.
