SCSI Hard Drive Installation
Guidelines
The following guidelines should be noted when adding SCSI hard drives. See
Chapter 4, “SCSI Cabling Instructions for Mass Storage SCSI Devices,” for
additional information.
As a general rule, a maximum of seven SCSI devices may be added per
controller. Because of each server’s physical and configuration
constraints, the maximum number will be different.
You must set the SCSI ID manually on each drive to a unique value in the
range of 0 to 6. Consult the documentation that came with the drive for
instructions on setting the SCSI ID.
If only one SCSI hard drive is used, it should be installed in the lowest-
numbered bay.
Compaq SCSI non-hot-plug cables are terminated. Be sure to remove
all terminating jumpers from third-party SCSI devices.
Drives may be Fast-SCSI-2, Fast-Wide SCSI-2, Wide-Ultra SCSI-3, or a
mixture of the three in servers and storage systems.
Drives should be the same capacity to provide the greatest storage space
efficiency when drives are grouped together into the same drive array.
Run System Configuration Utility after installing a drive.
