Storage-System Hardware Storage-System Installation Types The storage systems attach to the server and the interconnect components as described in Chapter 1. The installation types are ◆ Unshared direct, with one server, is the simplest and least costly; ◆ Shared-or-clustered direct, with a limit of two servers, lets two servers share storage resources with high availability; and ◆ Shared switched, which has two switch fabrics, lets two or more servers share the resources of several storage systems in a storage area network (SAN). Table 6-1 illustrates the storage-system installation types. CX300, CX500, CX500i, and CX700 storage systems require at least one network connection for management.
