About CX300, CX500, CX500i, and CX700 Storage Systems Initiator Components The network interface card (NIC) or host bus adapter (HBA) is a printed-circuit board that slides into an I/O slot in the server's cabinet. It transfers data between server memory and one or more storage systems over the LAN using the iSCSI protocol. A LAN switch connects all the nodes cabled to it.
