This chapter contains the following major sections: ◆ Storage System iSCSI Data Port Worksheet 7-2 ◆ iSCSI Initiator Port Worksheet 7-3 CX500i storage systems (targets) connect to iSCSI NICs or HBAs (initiators) through internet SCSI (iSCSI) interfaces. Initiators connect to targets either directly (initiator iSCSI port connected directly to target iSCSI port) or through a LAN. Each initiator contains either iSCSI host-bus adapters (HBAs) or Network Interface Cards (NICs), which are the physical iSCSI interfaces. For the storage system, you will record each SP's iSCSI port network settings which include the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway address. For the initiators, you will record each initiator's iSCSI port network settings. In addition, you can configure CHAP (Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol) on the storage system. For CHAP authentication, you specify a username and password (called a secret) that any initiator must use to connect to the target storage system's iSCSI ports; the target storage system authenticates the initiators. You can also configure mutual CHAP authentication where initiators authenticate target iSCSI storage system(s). iSCSI Configuration 7-1

CX500i storage systems (targets) connect to iSCSI NICs or HBAs
(initiators) through internet SCSI (iSCSI) interfaces. Initiators connect
to targets either directly (initiator iSCSI port connected directly to
target iSCSI port) or through a LAN. Each initiator contains either
iSCSI host-bus adapters (HBAs) or Network Interface Cards (NICs),
which are the physical iSCSI interfaces.
For the storage system, you will record each SP’s iSCSI port network
settings which include the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway
address. For the initiators, you will record each initiator’s iSCSI port
network settings.
In addition, you can configure CHAP (Challenge Handshake
Authentication Protocol) on the storage system. For CHAP
authentication, you specify a username and password (called a
secret) that any initiator must use to connect to the target storage
system’s iSCSI ports; the target storage system authenticates the
initiators.
You can also configure
mutual
CHAP authentication where
initiators authenticate target iSCSI storage system(s).
