Glossary alarm AL_PA American National Standard Code for Information Interchange American National Standards Institute ANSI API application application client application program application program interface arbitrated loop (1) A notification of an abnormal condition within a system that provides an indication of the location or nature of the abnormality to either a local or remote alarm indicator. (2) A simple network management protocol (SNMP) message notifying an operator of a network or device problem. See arbitrated loop physical address. ASCII. A standard character set consisting of 7-bit coded characters (8-bit including parity check) used for information exchange between systems and equipment (D). ANSI.
