HP DesignJet Printer Series Security Settings Appendix 4 - Netgard overview Introduction API's Netgard™ MFD product is a network access control device that is used for authenticating users who use multifunction devices (MFDs) and peripherals to access the network. Through the use of a Common Access Card (CAC) or Personal Identification Verification (PIV), this device prevents users from performing 'Scan', 'Copy' and 'Print from USB' operations without authenticating. Moreover, the 'Job queue' application is also protected. When this feature is configured in the printer, the following "stand-up workflows" are restricted to unknown users: • Scan ('Scan to USB', 'Scan to Email', 'Scan to HP Smart Stream' and 'Scan to Network folder'). • Copy • Print from USB • Job queue A user must be authenticated by inserting a Smartcard into the API Netgard card reader to gain access to those workflows. A user who is not previously authenticated would not have access to those workflows. The rest of the workflows such as "Print from Skylon" and "Print from Driver" are not protected (authentication is not required to launch them) and, therefore, they are supposed to work normally. User account The user account that will be used for testing purposes is the following one: Smartcard: • PIN: 123456 FP settings To enable Netgard, it will be necessary to configure the following setting at the Front Panel: Settings > Partner menu > (...)
