Controlling Exposure Exposure Compensation Use Exposure Compensation to modify exposure control, (for example, from the ISO standard). This can be useful when you are intentionally achieving under- or overexposure. Use Center-Weighed or Spot Metering with Exposure Compensation. You can use any exposure mode. You can check the compensation value by pressing . NOTE: Exposure Compensation is not to be confused with Digital Exposure Correction, which is used to correct errors in exposure (see page 6-15). 1. Press and hold and rotate the Main-Command dial until the desired compensation value appears (-3 EV to +3 EV in 1/2 steps). Normally you should compensate exposure to the + side when the background is brighter than the main subject, or to the - side when the background is darker. When Exposure Compensation is set, appears in the Top Status LCD and in the viewfinder. The electronic analog exposure display indicates the compensation value and 0 blinks. Compose the picture, focus, and capture the image. • Press and hold and rotate the Main-Command dial to reset the compensation value to 0.0. Alternatively, you can perform Two-Button Reset (see page 5-19). NOTE: Exposure Compensation is not cancelled when you turn off the camera. April 29, 2004 7-19
