Focusing AF-Assist Illuminator When you lightly press the Shutter Release button, the AF-Assist Illuminator turns on automatically under the following conditions: • Single Servo AF Focus mode • AF NIKKOR lens is used • Subject is dark and center focus is selected • Dynamic AF with Closest Subject Priority is activated NOTE: If the AF-Assist Illuminator is used repeatedly over a short period of time, it will turn off for a short period of time to protect the firing tube. It will restart shortly. CAUTION: The AF-Assist Illuminator can become hot if used repeatedly over a short period of time. Be careful not to touch it. When the AF-Assist Illuminator is on, autofocus will not work due to vignetting at shooting distances less than one meter with the following lenses: • AF Micro 200 mm f/4 IF-ED, AF-S 17-35 mm f/2.8 IF-ED (24 mm or longer focal length), AF 20-35m f/2.8 IF, AF 24-120 mm f/3.5-5.6 IF, AF-S 28-70 mm f/2.8 IF-ED, AF 35-70 mm f/2.8, AF Micro 70-180 mm f/4.5-5.6 ED When the AF-Assist Illuminator is on, autofocus will not work due to vignetting with the following lenses: • AF-S 80-200 mm f/2.8 IF-ED, AF 80-200 mm f/2.8 ED, AF VR 80-400 mm f/4.5-5.6 ED 8-6 April 29, 2004
