Chapter 5 WAN/LAN retransmissions if the packet encounters a router that can't handle that large a packet. Too small an MTU size means relatively more header overhead and more acknowledgements that have to be sent and handled. Maximum Segment Size The maximum segment size (MSS) is the largest amount of data, specified in bytes, that a computer or communications device can handle in a single, unfragmented piece. For optimum communications, the number of bytes in the data segment and the header must add up to less than the number of bytes in the maximum transmission unit (MTU). 5.2 The WAN/LAN Screen The N4100's LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1 with subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. The DHCP server is enabled on the LAN with a 253 client IP address pool starting from 192.168.1.2. You can change the DHCP settings in the Server screen.
