Kawasaki recommends that the operator and passengers wear a vest-type PFD (type 1, 2 or 3) at all times. j A. Steering Nozzle Personal Flotation Device and Safety Gear: U.S. federal regulations require that one U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (PFD) be carried for each person aboard when operating on water under Coast Guard jurisdiction. In some state waters not under federal jurisdiction, other flotation devices are permissible in addition to those specified by federal law. Other countries may have their own standards and regulations; be sure to follow them. As a rule, waist-type ski belts do not qualify as adequate flotation devices. The full vest type is recommended. Check local regulations to see what type of personal flotation device may be required in your area.
