Chapter 3: Adding and Configuring the Client Agents After installing BrightStor ARCserve Backup and its various client agents, you must add and configure each client agent machine in your network to the backup server. This chapter discusses the procedures for adding and configuring client agents. Auto Discovery or Manual Addition of Client Agents If you have BrightStor ARCserve Backup installed on a Windows server or NetWare server that uses the Windows manager interface, you can automatically discover client agents in your network using Auto Discovery or you can add client agents manually. If you have BrightStor ARCserve Backup installed on a UNIX or Linux server, you must add client agents manually. The following sections include information on each of these methods. Auto Discover Client Agents on a Windows Server or a NetWare Server If you have BrightStor ARCserve Backup installed on a Windows server or a NetWare server that uses the Windows manager interface, you can use Auto Discovery to automatically detect Windows, UNIX, Linux, and Mac OS X client agents installed and running in your network. To use Auto Discovery to create your backup and restore list, ensure that the Backup Engine is running. The system default is to automatically start the Backup Engine when BrightStor ARCserve Backup is first started; however, you may need to stop the engine during certain operations.
