Heat sink NOTE: The heat sink spare part kit includes replacement thermal material. Description For use only with HP Compaq 6535s Notebook PC models For use only with HP Compaq 6531s Notebook PC models For use only with HP Compaq 6530s Notebook PC models Spare part number 493174-001 491980-001 496679-001 Before removing the heat sink, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 46). 5. Remove the following components: a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 47) b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 55) c. Keyboard (see Switch cover and keyboard on page 57) d. Switch cover (see Switch cover and keyboard on page 57) e. Speakers (see Speakers on page 61) f. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 62) g. Top cover (see Top cover on page 68) h. System board (see System board on page 79) Remove the heat sink: NOTE: Steps 1 through 3 apply only to HP Compaq 6531s Notebook PC models. See steps 4 through 6 for removing the heat sink on HP Compaq 6530s Notebook PC models. See steps 7 through 9 for removing the heat sink on HP Compaq 6535s Notebook PC models. 1. Turn the system board upside down, with the audio connectors toward you. 2. Following the 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence stamped into the heat sink, loosen the four screws (1) around the processor. 84 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures
