Chapter 3 Integrated RA Setup and Configuration (which you may modify). If the modem you are using does not appear on the modem list, select Generic Hayes-Compatible and refer to your modem documentation for an appropriate initialization string. 3. After setting up your modem, click OK. You are prompted to save the settings. Choose Yes. Modem selection and configuration is complete. Set the Automatic Logout time This sets the amount of time the server will wait for activity from the remote client before automatically logging off the connection. Set the time in minutes. Set the Serial Communications Rate This setting defines the speed at which data is sent between the server's Management Port and the modem's serial port. The measurement is in bits per second (bps). As a rule, the default, 19200 bps, is the best setting for a high speed modem. Select a Dialing Method If you are using a modem, set the dialing method to either pulse or tone. There are two types of phone lines: one configured for pulse (or rotary) dialing phone, or one configured for a touch tone phone. Set it for the type of line you have. You may also designate a direct serial connection, if you do so, be sure to match the Serial Baud Rate with that of the terminal you are making the direct connection with. Initialization String Parameters HP recommends that you use a modem listed in Appendix B of this guide. However, if you choose to use an unlisted modem and want to fashion your own initialization string, you can use the commands listed in the following table. This table lists the Hayes modem commands required in the string to enable modem features for a remote client connection. For other types of modems, see the documentation provided with your modem for a list of equivalent commands. 25
