Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure If power to your computer is interrupted while POST/BIOS is being updated (flash update), your computer might not restart (reboot) correctly. If this happens, use this procedure to recover. 1. Turn off the computer and any attached devices, such as printers, monitors, and external drives. 2. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets. 3. Remove the cover. See "Removing the cover and front bezel" on page 59. 4. Locate the rocker switch on the system board. See the system board label inside your computer for the location of the rocker switch. Note: You might need to move the front fan aside to allow easier access to the rocker switch. For instructions to move the front fan aside, see "Replacing the battery" steps 4 through 7 on page 116. 5. Move switch 3 from the off position to the on position. Note: If you moved the front fan aside, see "Replacing the battery" step 11 on page 117. 6. Install the computer cover. See "Replacing the cover and connecting the cables" on page 83. 7. Connect the power cords for the computer and monitor to electrical outlets. 8. Insert the POST/BIOS update (flash) diskette into drive A. 9. Turn on the computer and the monitor. 10. After the update session completes, turn off the computer and monitor. 11. Remove the diskette from drive A. 12. Repeat steps 2 through 4, then continue with step 13. 13. Move switch 3 from the on position to the off position. 14. Replace the memory card and the front fan. 15. Install the cover and reconnect any cables that were disconnected. 16. Recovering from a POST/BIOS update failure
If power to your computer is interrupted while POST/BIOS is being
updated (flash update), your computer might not restart (reboot) correctly.
If this happens, use this procedure to recover.
1.
Turn off the computer and any attached devices, such as printers,
monitors, and external drives.
2.
Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets.
3.
Remove the cover.
See “Removing the cover and front bezel” on
page 59.
4.
Locate the rocker switch on the system board.
See the system board
label inside your computer for the location of the rocker switch.
Note:
You might need to move the front fan aside to allow easier
access to the rocker switch.

fan aside, see “Replacing the battery” steps 4 through 7 on
page 116.
5.
Move switch 3 from the off position to the on position.

If you moved the front fan aside, see “Replacing the battery”
step 11 on page
117.
6.
Install the computer cover.
See “Replacing the cover and connecting
the cables” on page
83.
7.
Connect the power cords for the computer and monitor to electrical
outlets.
8.
Insert the POST/BIOS update (flash) diskette into drive A.
9.
Turn on the computer and the monitor.
10.
After the update session completes, turn off the computer and monitor.
11.
Remove the diskette from drive A.
12.
Repeat steps 2 through 4, then continue with step 13.
13.
Move switch 3 from the on position to the off position.
14.
Replace the memory card and the front fan.
15.
Install the cover and reconnect any cables that were disconnected.
16.
Turn on the computer to restart the operating system.
