Locating components Once you have removed the cover and bezel (see "Removing the cover and front bezel" on page 59), you will need to locate and recognize components inside your computer. The following illustration will help you locate the various components in your computer. 1 Microprocessor 2 Diskette drive 3 CD-ROM drive 4 Hard disk drive 5 Power switch 6 Power-on light 7 Hard disk drive light 8 Radio frequency identification (RFID) antenna 9 Front fan 1 System board 11 Adapter slot 12 Memory card Identifying parts on the system board The system board, also called the planar or motherboard, is the main circuit board in your computer. It provides basic computer functions and supports a variety of devices that are IBM-installed or that you can install later. See the following illustration for the location of parts on the system board.
