I/O board This section shows the locations of items on the I/O board and contains information about removing and replacing the I/O board. Note: When replacing the I/O board, you must either update the system with the latest firmware or restore the pre-existing firmware that the customer provides on a diskette or CD image. Note: v Read "Installation guidelines" on page 79. v Read the safety notices at "Safety notices (multilingual translations)" on page 260. v Read "Handling static-sensitive devices" on page 80. 1. Turn off the server (see "Turning off the server" on page 10) and disconnect all power cords and external cables. 2. Remove the PCI brick from the server (see "PCI brick" on page 158) and place it on a clean work surface. 3. Remove the center plane by turning the two center plane thumbscrews to release it (see "Center plane" on page 159); then, carefully lift the center plane out of its socket and place it on a static-protective surface. 166 xSeries 445 Type 8870: Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide
