Troubleshooting Charts Problem The system cannot start from the PC Card. The PC Card is installed and configured, but it does not work. Cause and Action To start from the PC Card, do as follows: 1. Start the ThinkPad Configuration program. 2. Click on the UltraBay II ( ) button. 3. Remove the check mark from the Enable Hot/Warm Swapping of UltraBay II check box by clicking on it. 4. Click on OK. Make sure that the correct system resources are being used for the PC Card. ATA: IRQ 15 I/O 170-177h, 376h Note: The secondary IDE should be disabled. RPL (Token Ring): IRQ 9 Memory: D6000-DBFFFh I/O A20-A23h RPL (Ethernet): IRQ 5 Memory D2000-D7FFFh I/O 300-31Fh Modem card: Make sure all settings in the "Modem Control" panel and in your communication application correspond and are correct. SCSI card: Make sure the correct driver for the SCSI card is installed. Note: SCSI cards can be inserted while you are operating your computer; however, it is recommended that you insert them at boot time. Network card: Make sure all network components are correctly installed. Combo card: Make sure the correct driver for the Combo card is installed. To start from the PC Card, do as follows:

2. Click on the
