Red-eye reduction flash, Fill-in Flash forced activation, flash override

Page 107 highlights

Red-eye reduction flash This mode significantly reduces the phenomenon of "red-eye" by emitting about 10 pre-flashes before firing the regular flash. This mode works the same way as the auto-flash except for the pre-flashes. Note: ● It takes about 1 sec. before the Shutter is released. ● Effectiveness may be limited if the subject is not looking directly at the preflashes, or if the shooting range is too far. Individual physical characteristics may also limit effectiveness. ● The mode is not available when the Mode dial is set to M and S-Prg-Sports. Fill-in Flash (forced activation) The flash fires regardless of 6 available light. This mode is useful for eliminating shadows on the subject's face or for correcting the color shift produced by artificial lighting (especially fluorescent light). Note: ● It may not have the desired effect under excessively bright light. Off (flash override) The flash does not fire even in lowlight conditions. Use this mode in situations where flash photography is not desired or prohibited, or when you want to shoot a natural-looking twilight or night scene. To use this mode, push the flash back into the camera. Note: ● Since a slow shutter speed is automatically selected in low-light situations when in the OFF mode, the use of a tripod is recommended to prevent blurred pictures caused by camera shake. 107
