Symptom The power turns off suddenly. Cause Solution • If you do not operate the camera for about three minutes when using batteries, the camera turns off automatically to prevent wearing down the batteries (page 14). • The batteries are discharged. p Turn on the camera again (page 14). p Replace them with charged batteries (page 10). Shooting still images/movies Symptom Cause The subject does not appear • The mode switch is set to . on the LCD screen. The image is out of focus. • The subject is too close. The image is too dark. The image is too bright. The image is monochrome (black and white). Vertical streaks appear when you are shooting a very bright subject. • When shooting still images, (Illumination snap mode), (Twilight mode), (Vivid nature mode), or (Active outdoor mode) is selected for the Scene Selection function. • You are shooting movies at a distance closer than 1.0 m (3 feet 3 3/8 inches). • The Focus preset function is selected. • The LCD screen is too dark. • The LCD screen is too bright. • [P.EFFECT] is set to [B&W] mode. • The smear phenomenon is occurring. Solution p Set the mode switch to or (pages 20 and 41). p Make sure to position the lens farther away from the subject than the minimum shooting distance of 10 cm (4 inches) when shooting (page 30). p Cancel the Scene Selection function (page 29). p Select the Focus preset function (page 30). p Set it to [AUTO] (page 31). p Set [LCD LIGHT] to [ON] (page 21). p Set [LCD LIGHT] to [OFF] (page 21). p Cancel [B&W] mode (page 32). p This is not a malfunction. 60
