Caring for CDs and DVDs, Using external display devices

Page 115 highlights

115 Expansion Options Using external display devices Caring for CDs and DVDs ❖ Store your discs in their original containers to protect them from scratches and keep them clean. ❖ Never bend a disc or place heavy objects on top of it. ❖ Never apply a label to, or otherwise mar the surface of a disc. ❖ Hold a disc by its outside edge. Fingerprints on the surface can prevent the drive from reading the data properly. ❖ Avoid exposing discs to direct sunlight or extreme heat or cold. ❖ To clean a disc that is dirty, wipe it with a clean, dry cloth. The most efficient method to clean it is to start from the center of the disc and wipe toward the outward edge (not in a circle). If necessary, moisten the cloth with water or a neutral cleaner (not benzine or rubbing alcohol). Let the disc dry completely before inserting it in the drive. Using external display devices Your computer comes with a built-in LCD display, but you can easily attach an external monitor to your computer if you need a larger screen. To do this: 1 Connect the monitor's video cable to the RGB (monitor) port on the back of the computer. 2 Connect the monitor's power cord/cable to a live electrical outlet. 3 Turn on the external monitor. 4 Set the display mode by pressing Fn + F5, or by setting the Display Properties settings. For more information, see "Directing the display output when you turn on the computer" on page 116.

Using external display devices
Caring for CDs and DVDs
Store your discs in their original containers to protect
them from scratches and keep them clean.
Never bend a disc or place heavy objects on top of it.
Never apply a label to, or otherwise mar the surface of a
disc.
Hold a disc by its outside edge. Fingerprints on the
surface can prevent the drive from reading the data
properly.
Avoid exposing discs to direct sunlight or extreme heat or
cold.
To clean a disc that is dirty, wipe it with a clean, dry
cloth. The most efficient method to clean it is to start
from the center of the disc and wipe toward the outward
edge (not in a circle). If necessary, moisten the cloth with
water or a neutral cleaner (not benzine or rubbing
alcohol). Let the disc dry completely before inserting it in
the drive.
Using external display devices
Your computer comes with a built-in LCD display, but you
can easily attach an external monitor to your computer if you
need a larger screen. To do this:
1
Connect the monitor’s video cable to the RGB (monitor)
port on the back of the computer.
2
Connect the monitor’s power cord/cable to a live
electrical outlet.
3
Turn on the external monitor.
4
Set the display mode by pressing
Fn + F5
, or by setting the
Display Properties settings. For more information, see
“Directing the display output when you turn on the
computer” on page 116
