11 Using the FC-FC routing service The FC-FC Routing (FCR) Service provides Fibre Channel routing between two or more fabrics without merging those fabrics. The FC-FC Routing Service can be simultaneously used as a Fibre Channel router and for SAN extension over wide area networks (WANs) using FCIP. FCR supports backbone to edge routing, allowing devices in the backbone to talk to devices on the edge fabric. A Fibre Channel router is a switch running the FC-FC routing services. The FCR also supports interoperability with McDATA E/OS v7.x and 8.x. For more information about McDATA interoperability support, see "Connecting to HP M-Series or McDATA SANs" on page 254. The FC-FC (Fibre Channel) routing service provides Fibre Channel routing (FCR) between two or more fabrics without merging those fabrics. The FC-FC routing service can be simultaneously used as a FC router and as a SAN extension over wide area networks (WANs) using FCIP. FCR supports backbone to edge routing, allowing devices in the backbone to talk to devices on the edge fabric. A Fibre Channel router is a switch running the FC-FC routing services. FCR also supports interoperability with M-EOS v7.x, 8.x, and v9.x. For more information about M-EOS interoperability support, see Interoperating with an M-EOS fabric, page 255. Supported platforms FC-FC Routing is supported on the following platforms: • HP StorageWorks B-Series MP Router blade • HP StorageWorks 400 MP Router • 4/256 SAN Director when it is configured with a B-Series MP Router blade and uses chassis configuration option 5 Supported configurations In an edge fabric that contains a mix of administrative domain (AD)-capable switches and switches that are not aware of AD, the FC router must be connected directly to the AD-capable switch. For more information, see Use of administrative domains with LSAN Zones and FCR, page 243. The supported configurations are: • FC router connected to a Brocade nonsecured fabric • FC router connected to a Brocade secured fabric • FC router connected to an McDATA Open Mode 1.0 • FC router connected to an McDATA Fabric Mode • FC router connected to Brocade secured and nonsecured fabrics with EX_Port trunking enabled • Can interoperate with older FC routers (XPath v7.4.x and Fabric OS v5.1) Fabric OS 5.3.0 administrator guide 225

Using the FC-FC routing service
