11 Using the FC-FC routing service The FC-FC Routing (FCR) Service provides Fibre Channel routing between two or more fabrics without merging those fabrics. The FC-FC Routing Service can be simultaneously used as a Fibre Channel router and for SAN extension over wide area networks (WANs) using FCIP. FCR supports backbone to edge routing, allowing devices in the backbone to talk to devices on the edge fabric. A Fibre Channel router is a switch running the FC-FC routing services. The FCR also supports interoperability with McDATA E/OS v7.x and 8.x. For more information about McDATA interoperability support, see "Connecting to HP M-Series or McDATA SANs" on page 254. Supported platforms FC-FC Routing is supported on the following platforms: • HP StorageWorks B-Series MP Router blade • HP StorageWorks 400 MP Router • 4/256 SAN Director when it is configured with a B-Series MP Router blade and uses chassis configuration option 5 Supported configurations In an edge fabric that contains a mix of administrative domain (AD)-capable switches and switches that are not aware of AD, the FC router must be connected directly to the AD-capable switch. For more information, see Use of administrative domains with LSAN Zones and FCR, page 243.
