Fabric OS 5.3.0 administrator guide
441
B
Configuring McData Open Fabric mode
This appendix provides information on setting up a heterogeneous fabric that includes HP StorageWorks
switches and switches from other manufacturers.
The
interoperability
mode enables HP StorageWorks switches and others to exchange interoperability
parameters, allowing their fabrics to merge into one fabric with one principal switch and unique
domain IDs.
The
interopMode
command must be executed on all HP StorageWorks switches in the fabric. Each HP
StorageWorks switch must be rebooted after changing interoperability mode.
Switches from other manufacturers might also require the execution of one or more commands to set up
interoperability mode. Refer to the appropriate user documentation for details.
In a heterogeneous fabric, each HP StorageWorks switch must have interoperability mode enabled (refer to
Enabling and disabling interoperability mode
” on page 444).
To provide maximum compatibility between switches, several features are not available in heterogeneous
fabrics (refer to ”
Supported features
” on page 442 and ”
Unsupported HP StorageWorks Features
” on
page 442).
Vendor switch requirements
Interoperability has been tested on McDATA switches.
McDATA ES-3016 or ED-5000 models, or an equivalent OEM version that is plug-compatible, is required.
For more infoirmation on supported switches and firmware versions, access the
HP StorageWorks Fabric
Interoperability: Merging Fabrics Based on M-Series and B-Series Fibre Channel Switches application
notes
::
Important variables that determine the supportability of a particular mixed vendor SAN include the number
of switches, version of Fabric OS, the topology, number of ISLs, number of connected devices, and hop
count.
HP StorageWorks switch requirements
Following are switch software requirements:
4/16 SAN Switch and 4/8 SAN Switch model running Fabric OS v5.0.1 or later.
1 GB switch models must be running Fabric OS v2.6.0 or later.
2/8 EL SAN Switch and 2/16 SAN Switch models must be running Fabric OS v3.1.0 or later.
HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 2/8V, SAN Switch 2/16V, SAN Switch 2/32, Core Switch 2/64, and
SAN Director 2/128 models must be running 4.2.0 or later.
SAN Switch 4/32 model must be running Fabric OS v4.4.0 or later.
4/64 SAN Switch model must be running Fabric OS 5.1.x or later.
The B-series MP Router blade requires Fabric OS 5.1.0b (minimum) or later
.
The 400 MP Router model must be running Fabric OS 5.1.0b (minimum) or later.
When you have a B-Series MP Router blade or a 4/48 blade in the 4/256 SAN Director, you must be
running a minimum of 5.2x on the Director.
4/256 SAN Director model must be running Fabric OS v5.0.1 or later.
A zoning license and a fabric license must be installed on each HP StorageWorks switch.
