Sending a fax while listening to a call (On Hook Dial) The manual dialing feature lets you dial a fax number while listening to the call through a speaker on the printer. It is useful when you must navigate an automated answering system or enter a calling card number before sending a fax. 1 Make sure the printer is on and is connected to a working phone line. 2 Load an original document faceup, short edge first into the ADF or facedown on the scanner glass. Note: Do not load postcards, photos, small items, transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass. 3 If you are loading a document into the ADF, adjust the paper guides. 4 From the control panel, press . 5 Pick up the handset of the external telephone and listen for a dial tone, or press Hook and listen for a dial tone. 6 On the external telephone, dial the fax number you want to call. If you pressed Hook, dial the number using the keypad. 7 When you hear a fax tone, press . 8 If you picked up the handset of an external telephone, replace it. is useful when you must navigate an automated answering system or enter a calling card number before sending a
fax.

Make sure the printer is on and is connected to a working phone line.

Load an original document faceup, short edge first into the ADF or facedown on the scanner glass.
Note:
Do not load postcards, photos, small items, transparencies, photo paper, or thin media (such as magazine
clippings) into the ADF. Place these items on the scanner glass.

If you are loading a document into the ADF, adjust the paper guides.

From the control panel, press

Pick up the handset of the external telephone and listen for a dial tone, or press
Hook
and listen for a dial tone.

On the external telephone, dial the fax number you want to call. If you pressed Hook, dial the number using the
keypad.

When you hear a fax tone, press
