Operations When a function does not work, check here before requesting help! General Problem Cause & Remedy I cannot make and receive calls. I cannot make calls. The unit does not work. The unit does not ring. The unit displays the following message though the paper is inserted. 11CHECK1PAPER q The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the connections (p. 14). q If you used a splitter to connect the unit, remove the splitter and connect the unit to the wall jack directly. If the unit operates properly, check the splitter. q The dialing mode setting is wrong. Change the setting of feature #13 (p. 83). q Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired. If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your telephone company. q The ringer volume is set to off. Adjust it to a suitable level (p. 22, 23). q The TAD ring count of feature #06 is set to "RINGER OFF". Change to another ring count (p. 83). q The paper is inserted halfway. Insert it correctly (p. 13) and press SET to clear the message. The other party complains they only hear a fax tone and cannot talk. q The FAX ONLY mode is set. Tell them the number is only used for faxes or change to TAD/FAX, TEL or TEL/FAX mode (p. 58, 59). The REDIAL/PAUSE button does not function properly. q If this button is pressed during dialing, a pause will be inserted. If pressed immediately after a dial tone is obtained, the last number dialed will be redialed. The receive mode does not function as explained on pages 58 and 59. q A Distinctive Ring pattern of feature #31 is set (p. 85). q The TEL/FAX mode is set (p. 62, 63).
