Preventing data on the memory card from being recovered Unintelligible data will be written on the memory card. Thus, it may become more difficult to recover any original data. Even if you format the memory card, there may be some data remaining. Therefore, when you dispose of or transfer the memory card, it is recommended that you perform a [ MEDIA EMPTY]/[ MEDIA EMPTY] operation. b Notes • If you perform this operation, all stored data are deleted. To avoid the loss of important images, they should be saved (p. 81) before the operation. • You cannot perform this operation unless you connect the AC Adaptor to the wall outlet (wall socket). • Disconnect all cables except the AC Adaptor. Do not disconnect the AC Adaptor during the operation. • Do not apply any vibrations or shocks to your camcorder during this operation. 1 Operate the camcorder on an outside power source using the AC Adaptor (p. 19). 2 Set the POWER switch to ON. The media empty screen appears. STOP button 7 Touch [YES] t [YES] t . b Notes • It may take from several minutes to several hours to empty recording media, depending on the capacity. You can check the actual time required on the LCD screen. • If you stop the operation while [Executing...] appears, be sure to complete the operation by performing [MEDIA FORMAT] or emptying when you use the memory card next time. Editing 3 Press the MODE button. 4 Touch [MANAGE MEDIA] t [MEDIA FORMAT]. 5 Touch the memory card to be formatted. The format screen appears. 6 Press and hold the STOP button for more than 3 seconds. 63
