56 Connecting Other External Devices Connecting a local printer Connecting a USB printer 1 Connect the printer cable to the USB port. 2 Connect the printer's power cable to a wall outlet and turn on the printer. Connecting a serial or parallel printer CAUTION: For a parallel or serial printer, never connect the printer cable while the computer's power is on. Doing so may damage the printer, the computer, or both. 1 If the computer is on, turn it off. 2 Connect the computer to the port replicator. 3 Connect the printer cable to the parallel port on the port replicator. 4 Connect the printer's power cable to a wall outlet and turn on the printer. 5 Turn on the computer. Setting up your printer using the Windows® 2000 Professional operating system 1 Click Start, point to Settings, then Control Panel and double-click the Add/Remove Hardware icon. The Add/Remove Hardware Wizard starts, and guides you through setting up your printer.
